The Lowe family goes agile

“Could I use Scrum to run my family?” I pondered as I slumped onto my sofa at 7pm on Friday night. I’d just spent the week looking after my little darlings. For the most part, it had gone well, but there had been various trying occasions: my 5 year old messing around at dinner time, my 2 year old lobbing her favourite toy out of her cot then calling me to pick it up, both playing up when I had to apply sun screen.

So, if I implemented Scrum at home, would it improve the situation? It worked for Bruce Feiler:

I think Scrum would be too hard for kids my age; although planning each week might benefit the parents, it’s going to be done without the kids being involved (i.e. not be agile). But maybe Kanban is the answer? We could discuss each item as we bring them in and make sure that we are limiting what we are doing at any one time.

With only three days left before I hand the reins back to my wife, I’m not sure I’ve got enough time to try. I may give it a go though; what can possibly go wrong?
