Iterative, Incremental, Big Bang is a workshop game to encourage people to think about alternative approaches for tackling projects. However, rather than discuss boring work-like scenarios, we’re asking you to decide on an approach for everyday scenarios like converting your loft, cooking Sunday lunch or building a nuclear submarine!
We have produced a variety of games to play with the cards, so you can run sessions with any number of people – from just a couple of people to a room full.
WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR ORDER?
The set comprises two decks of cards:
- Deck one: 54 white ‘approach’ cards (18 iterative cards, 18 incremental cards, 18 big bang cards)
- Deck two: 56 black ‘scenario’ cards (46 printed scenario cards + 10 blank cards for you to write your own scenarios)
The cards are printed in full colour on quality gloss board and are plastic coated. Each deck is individually boxed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I play Iterative Incremental Big Bang?
Where can I buy Iterative Incremental Big Bang?
Just click on the ‘Buy Now’ button above and you will be taken to a checkout screen.
What is the point of Iterative Incremental Big Bang?
We made the game:
- as a tool to help people get a basic understanding of what iterative and incremental mean (many people use them the wrong way round!)
- to question the view that incremental and iterative approaches are always the best approach. For instance, is an iterative approach the best way to create a baby?!
- to challenge people to look at things from a different perspective — by constructing an argument for something we might not naturally agree with, we often learn a lot.
But those are just the most common uses that we have for the game. You can use the game in different ways.
Is Iterative Incremental Big Bang available in any other language?
It’s currently available in English and Russian.
We produced the English version; our friends at Scrumtrek produced the Russian version. You can buy the Russian version here.
Please feel free to tell us any other language you think we should produce.
Are there expansion packs?
Not yet. Please contact us if you’d pay for more scenario cards though, and we’ll probably make some.
I want to help you make Iterative Incremental Big Bang better.
The game was developed iteratively: we ran lots of sessions to get feedback and made five versions before we went to mass-production. That’s why it’s such an amazing game. We would value any feedback you want to give us which might help the next version be even better (if that’s possible!).
Is there a Iterative Incremental Big Bang app?
Not yet, but if there’s demand, we will make one.
Can I reproduce Iterative Incremental Big Bang?
You are welcome to use the awesome images that we made with Tim Smith from mypoorbrain, but we don’t allow you to reproduce the game physically or digitally (mainly because we don’t trust you to make it look as amazing as we did).
What if I want to buy more than one set?
Each set (comprising rules, one deck of approach cards and one deck of scenario cards) costs £20 + a one-off shipping cost of £9.60 for anywhere in the world. If you want to buy more than one set, you can increase the order at the checkout page after clicking the ‘Buy Now’ button above.
